LOVEDY GILBERT AWARD
The Lovedy Gilbert Award is presented annually to recognize and honor a former member of our congregation, Lovedy Gilbert. Lovedy loved her children more than the day they were born. Upon discovering that two of her children were gay, she went about educating everyone she met that God loves all people regardless of who they are or of their sexual preference. For many years, as a member of this congregation Lovedy lived to prove that fact. Weekly, she would do the one thing she knew she could do: she sent over 80 cards to those who were ill, regardless of whether they were members of MCC or not. She loved all of God’s children and wanted the world to know that God loved them even more. And to that end she worked tirelessly to show it.
This award is given on Mother’s Day to a women who exhibits the beautiful attributes of Lovedy Gilbert, which include the following:
-Consistently exhibits unconditional love and acceptance to all who are LGBTQI.
-Is faithful and committed to educating others of God’s unconditional love and acceptance for everyone.
-Works tirelessly for the betterment of the GLBTQI community, and Metropolitan Community Church of San Diego.
The recipient of this year’s Lovedy Gilbert Award is the mother of three children, grandmother of 4, and Great-Grandmother of 3.
She has always been very open-minded and pro-choice. She raised her children to be comfortable with who they are or would become. She always makes sure they know they are loved regardless. Her constant message to them is: there is nothing you can do or be that will make me love you less or stop loving you at all. She supports the decisions her children make. She actually started coming to The Met®, before her children. Not only is she a mom to her 3 children, she is the “mom figure” to about 40 girls where she works at the sorority. As her daughter says, “She is my mom AND my best friend and idol for motherhood.”
We are honored to have her participate each Sunday in church, and especially honored to present this year’s Lovedy Gilbert award to
OUR 45th ANNIVERSARY!
What a Sunday it was on June 7. 2015 as we celebrated 45 years of ministry in grand style! With over 250 people in attendance, Pastor Dan had the joy and honor of interviewing 3 former MCCSD pastors: David Farrell, Tony Freeman and John Gill. It was both an engaging, informative "trip down memory lane" and a nod to a relevant, promising future in ministry. Great music and a jubilant spirit rounded out the morning, and the evening was topped off by the powerful, uplifting voices of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir and a dessert buffet attended by 150. See photos of this most special day and listen to the pastoral sharing.
